HeyGen
We tested it
By Exploripo Editorial Team
HeyGen earns 7.0/10. Its short English presenter result was convincing and the workflow was quick, but Czech number errors, awkward framing, watermarking, and a paid download gate keep it below Synthesia in this test cycle.
Bottom line: HeyGen made it surprisingly easy to create a short talking-avatar video. Our English output combined a convincing voice with good facial animation and lip synchronization. The Czech sample was less reliable: the selected Adam voice misread both the currency amount and the year. The Free account also did not let us download the finished result.

Overview
HeyGen is a browser-based AI video platform for generating presenter videos, avatar scenes, translations, and other synthetic video content. In the workflow we tested, a user selects Presenter mode, chooses a public or custom avatar, selects a voice, pastes a script, chooses an output resolution, and generates the video.
The current official Free plan is designed for evaluation rather than production. HeyGen lists up to three videos per month, videos up to one minute, limited Avatar IV and Video Agent access, standard processing, more than 500 stock digital twins, one custom digital twin, and more than 30 languages. Limits can vary by region and can change, so prices and allowances should be rechecked before publication.
Independent review platforms were positive overall but not uniform when checked on 2026-08-23. G2 and Capterra were especially strong, Product Hunt was positive with a smaller sample, and Trustpilot was materially lower. The audiences, collection methods, and sample sizes differ, so these ratings provide context rather than a formula for our score.

Recurring praise across these sources centered on ease of use, fast production, realistic avatars, and useful lip sync or localization. Recurring concerns included pricing and credit clarity, support or subscription handling, occasional processing and lip-sync problems, and avatar limitations. We reproduced only some of those themes, so the remainder stays clearly labeled as external user feedback.

Features
5.1 Single Scene presenter workflow
Single Scene presented two clear choices: Presenter for a conventional talking-avatar video and Cinematic for a directed short shot. We used Presenter because it matched the review task and supported a longer script, language selection, voice preview, and lip synchronization.
HeyGen's Single Scene workflow offered Presenter and Cinematic creation modes.
5.2 English presenter test
For the English sample we used a public female avatar, the Annie - Lifelike voice, Avatar IV, and 720p output. The script included a dollar price, a full date, and a direct request to assess pacing, pronunciation, and lip synchronization. Voice quality and facial movement were good, and the lip sync was convincing for a short test.

5.3 Czech presenter test
For the Czech sample we selected the Adam voice and a male public avatar. The script contained 5,749 Czech koruna and the date 3 September 2026. The result remained understandable and the presenter movement was usable, but the voice read the currency amount and the year incorrectly. Those errors matter in pricing, news, education, and other factual content.
Evidence boundary: This finding applies to one short Czech script, one selected voice, and one generated variant. It does not prove that every HeyGen Czech voice or regeneration will make the same errors.

5.4 Download and output limits
The generated videos remained available inside our account, but attempting to save the finished file from the Free account was gated behind a paid plan. HeyGen's current download guide is explicitly written for paid users, while the current Free-plan description emphasizes a 720p sharing link. We therefore preserved screenshots rather than video files.

Our Experience
7.1 Signup and onboarding
Account creation and onboarding worked immediately in our test. HeyGen asked what kind of work we do and what brought us to the product, then opened a personalized workspace. We selected Marketing & Brand and Creating content to get customers. The process was quick and did not create the email-delivery delay we encountered with another product in this test cycle.
HeyGen's onboarding asked for a work category before opening the workspace.
7.2 English workflow
Selecting a public avatar, choosing Annie, pasting the script, and generating at 720p required very little explanation. The 19-second output had a natural voice, credible mouth movement, and good synchronization. The main visual weakness was framing: the presenter appeared cropped and positioned less cleanly than we expected.
7.3 Czech workflow
Switching to a Czech voice was also straightforward. The final 25-second Adam result paired a male avatar with the selected male voice. The overall delivery was usable, but incorrect reading of the amount and year made the output unsuitable for publishing without review and correction.

Alternatives
Synthesia is the closest direct alternative for complete AI-presenter videos. Exploripo's separate Free-plan Synthesia test completed English and Czech videos and scored 8.0/10; Synthesia produced the stronger final multilingual result, while HeyGen had the quicker first-run path.
ElevenLabs is the stronger fit when the job is voice generation rather than avatar video. In our separate English and Czech tests it produced more natural speech, handled comparable numeric content correctly, and allowed selected Free-plan outputs to be downloaded. Murf provides a clear voice editor, but our Czech Murf sample also misread important numbers and its Free trial did not allow export.

ElevenLabs 9.0/10; Murf 6.0/10
Comparison conclusion: HeyGen is useful when the avatar is the point. For voice-only work, ElevenLabs gave us the stronger English and Czech result. HeyGen's advantage is the complete presenter workflow, not the most reliable localized narration.

Final Verdict
Final verdict: HeyGen is approachable and capable of producing a convincing short English presenter video with minimal setup. Its Czech numeric errors, awkward framing, watermarked Free output, and paywalled download keep it from a stronger recommendation based on this test.
The 7.0/10 score reflects a promising but uneven result. HeyGen earns credit for fast onboarding, a simple creation flow, strong English voice and facial animation, and useful public avatars. It loses points because the Czech amount and year were incorrect, the English framing needed improvement, and the Free plan did not provide a downloadable file in our account.
